The Emergency Mine Lift Bag (EMLB) Test
Information: JW Automarine have passed their revolutionary MK5 emergency mine lift bag (EMLB) through many vigorous testing procedures. Included in these tests was this automated ascent, tow and decent operation test using a steel pipe. Using the EMLB's intrinsic timer delay computer system, divers can position the EMLB apparatus and retreat to safety before remotely controlling the assembly's ascent. To control the ascent, air is released into the bag in very small quantities from the attached air cylinders. When the computer system detects a decrease in the ambient water pressure around the lift, it compensates for the ascent speed by remotely dumping small doses of air from the bag through its dump valve system. After the successful lift to the surface, the mine would be towed out to sea and again using the remote buoyancy computer system, a controlled descent to the sea bed for safe detonation is achieved.
